Christmas Novena Prayer

As Christmas draws near, we are so grateful for the many gifts and well wishes people send us. But the greatest gift, of course, remains our Lord Jesus. For years we have kept the tradition of reciting the following prayer starting on December 16th and ending on Christmas Eve. The original source of the prayer is not known, but it is in keeping with the spirit of our foundress, Mother Mary Hyacinth, who had a great devotion to the Infant Jesus.

Christmas Novena Prayer

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us. Come, O Lord, and do not delay, and renew the face of Israel, Thy people. O Jesus, have mercy on us. O Mary, intercede for us. O Joseph, pray for us, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Let us pray: Descend, O Celestial dew! Come, O Son of David! Grant that we may enjoy an abundance of peace. Come, heavenly spirits, come creatures of the earth, to meet your great King and render him your homage and your adoration. Who is man, O infinite Majesty, that you should remember him, and who is the son of man that you should visit him? What can we do to render you thanks for so many gifts? You ask our hearts—it is these that you seek. O Lord, we consecrate them to you, though with confusion, seeing they are so miserable. Purify them and render them worthy of receiving you upon your coming into the world. This is the most ardent of our desires. Grant that we may enjoy the vision of your glory during all eternity. Amen.
